Selena Gomez fans were in panic mode on Thursday night, when the pop star revealed via her Snapchat account that she was suffering from a sore throat.
“I think I might have strep throat … (I) will do absolutely everything and anything I can to perform tonight,” Gomez shared with her social media followers.
However, despite feeling under the weather, the 23-year-old performed a full show to an enthusiastic Brisbane crowd, with Gomez later praising fans for their support
“This is my first time here, finally,” she told the crowd. “I do have a little bit of strep throat but that’s not going to stop me from singing my heart out and that’s what you deserve.”
“What a beautiful place you live. I promise it won’t take me so long to come back.”
Joe Jonas and band DNCE opened for the pop star with a lively and electric set.
On Friday morning, New Zealand promoters for Gomez’ Auckland show confirmed the singer was “well enough” to perform on Saturday.
“Selena performed a full show in Brisbane last night to great reviews,” the promoter said.
“We haven’t heard anything to suggest she won’t also perform in Auckland tomorrow night.”
Gomez is scheduled to perform at Auckland’s Vector Arena, on the back of her Australian Revival Tour.
Saturday night’s performance will mark her first ever show here in New Zealand.
